Anabel Medina will try to make the quarter-finals against Sweden’s Johanna Larsson and to take advantage of first seed Sara Errani’s injury and the eliminations of Julia Goerges and Roberta Vinci, who fell at the second and first round respectively, to win the WTA International tournament.
Her countrywoman Silvia Soler bid farewell to the tournament after a comprehensive loss to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (4-6, 0-6). Joining the Russian will be Klara Zakopalova and Mona Barthel who are the main obstacles standing between Anabel Medina and the Scandinavian title.
At Carlsbad, in the USA (WTA Premier), the main favourites have yet to put a foot wrong and are through to the quarter-finals. First seed Marion Bartoli will come up against fifth seed Christina McHale; Dominika Cibulkova (2nd) will meet Urszula Radwanska; Jelena Jankovic (3rd) will go head-to-head with Chang Yung-Jan; while fourth seed at Carlsbad, Nadia Petrova, will have to overcome Varvara Lepchenko who will be playing in front of her home crowd.
