The Canary Islander beat Germany's Sabine Lisicki to seal her third round place in the Canadian WTA Premier tournament. She will take on either Azarenka or Pazsek next.
Spain’s Carla Suárez Navarro will take on the winner of the Victoria Azarenka-Tamira Pazsek encounter in the third round at Montreal, Canada. The Canary Islander defeated Germany’s Sabine Lisicki over three sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). Whoever comes out on top in the third round clash will take on either Marion Bartoli or Petra Kvitová (who beat Peng Shuai and Ksenia Pervak respectively) in the quarter-final.
The tournaments’s second seed, Agnieszka Radwanska was made to sweat it out during her victory against Mona Barthel, only managing to beat the German after a tie-break in the final set (6-4, 3-6, 6-7). Next she will face South Africa’s Chanelle Scheepers, who only advanced because of Flavia Pennetta having to pull out. Italy’s Sara Errani saw off Jana Cepelova in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) and will take on Na Li as a result, after the Chinese woman sent Canada’s very own Eugenie Bouchard out.
Also, tournament seventh seed Caroline Wozniacki will face Holland’s Kiki Bertens sometime this evening. The winner of that encounter will take on Varvara Lepchenko, who beat Dominika Cibulková in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Local hopeful Aleksandra Wozniack comfortably saw off Jelena Jankovic (6-2, 6-3), who came into the competition on the back of suffering a first round exit in the Olympics. The Canadian will now take on Christina McHale, who came out on top against Voskoboeva (5-7, 6-3, 2-6).
The curtain will drawn over the third round action after third seed, Samantha Stosur takes on Lucie Safarova and a winner is decided between Angelique Kerber and Ekaterina Makarova.
