Serena Williams, who romped the London Olympics, continues to reek havoc on the WTA tour and is now through to the Premier 5 quarter-finals in Cincinnati after seeing off Urszula Radwanska (6-4, 6-3). The American will take on Angelique Kerber next after the German defeated Andrea Hlávacková in a tie-break.
Meanwhile, the tournament’s no. 1 seed, Agnieszka Radwanska, had to dig deep to overcome Sloane Stephens in three sets (6-1, 4-6, 6-4). Next up she will face either Li Na and Johanna Larsson, who go toe-to-toe today at 18:30 CET.
Venus Williams, who entered the competition as a wild card, will take on third seeded Samantha Stosur. The American brushed past Sara Errani in straight sets, while the Australian was also able to make light work of her third round clash, beating Ekaterina Makarova (6-1, 6-3).
Petra Kvitová convincingly saw off Shuai Peng (6-2, 6-2) and will now be looking to get past either Caroline Wozniacki or Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to secure a place in the semis. The match between the sixth seed and the Russian was suspended due to rain and will commence today at 18:30 CET.
