Number one in Spanish tennis, Rafael Nadal, has confirmed on social networks that he will be unable to compete at the upcoming ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto, as he has not yet fully recovered from the knee injury that ruled him out of the 2012 London Olympic games.

The Spanish star commented: “I won’t be at Toronto next week. It’s a real shame I’m not fit yet, and I hope to be prepared for the 2014 edition. I’m still going ahead with my recuperation and training.” Nadal’s objective now is to continue with his recuperation process in order to be fit to compete at the last Grand Slam of the season, the US open, which will take place in New York from the 27th of August.

The Mutua Madrid Open encourages all Rafa’s fans to leave messages of support on the official Facebook page of the tournament, wishing him the speediest of recoveries and a fantastic end to his season.
