The seven times Roland Garros champion will captain the Spanish team looking for Olympic glory on the English grass courts.
The Spanish Tennis Federation (La Real Federación Española de Tenis) announced the names of the men and women who will be representing Spain on the English grass courts during the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games.
In the men’s singles main draw, reigning Olympic champion Rafael Nadal will lead a four-man team consisting of himself as well as David Ferrer, Nicolás Almagro and Fernando Verdasco. In the men’s doubles competition, Nadal and Marcel Granollers will partner each other as will Nicolás Almagro and Fernando Verdasco.
In the women’s singles main draw Anabel Medina, Carla Suárez (a clay specialist who will have to adapt to the grass surface), and María José Martínez will be fighting for the title. In doubles, Medina and Arantxa Parra will make up one of the pairings, while Nuria Llagostera and María José Martínez make up the other.
The 11 Spanish players taking part in the four tennis competitions at the London 2012 Olympic Games will all be hoping to lift a medal once the action gets under started on the 28th of July in the All England Tennis Club.
