The qualifiers for the quarter-finals of the innovative virtual tournament which will take place simultaneously to the finals with the country’s best at Grand Slam Tennis II for the PS3. The eight qualifiers will fight it out this Sunday for a piece of the 5,000 euros in prize money on offer.
Saturday saw the first rounds of the virtual tournament get under way, with the 56 qualifiers from the preliminary stages which were held all over Spain, taken part.
Over 5,800 people tried out for the event during the qualifying rounds which were held in FNAC centres in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona. Along with them, two other players were selected to partake in the main event through the online qualifiers, as well as some more who secured their places by competing in the final qualifying stage in the game’s designated area in the Caja Mágica. In total there were 56 registered players, just like the Mutua Madrid Open main event.
The competition got off to a start on Saturday and drew to a close after the quarter-finals had concluded. The eight players who advanced to this stage will fight it out tomorrow to finish in the top three positions, for a chance to win either €2,500, €1,500 or €1,000. As well as that, all eight quarter-finalists will receive special accreditations, allowing them to feel like real professional players for the day, granting them access to the ATP and WTA players’ zone and restaurant.
The action on Sunday to find out who Spain’s greatest Grand Slam Tennis II player is, gets started with the quarter-finals at 15:00, will be followed by the semi-finals and then the grand final.
