Confirmed: Roger Federer will be in Madrid!

The Mutua Madrid Open will be able to enjoy the presence of Roger Federer, as the Swiss will be taking part in the fifteenth Masters 1000 held in the Spanish capital, a place that is special to the world number three.

Federer -who has added to his schedule the Spanish event in his official website- has lifted the trophy three times in Madrid. First in 2006, when he overcame Chilean player Fernando González (7-5, 6-1, 6-0), then in 2009, beating Rafael Nadal (6-4, 6-4) and finally in 2012, the year when he defeated Tomas Berdych (3-6, 7-5, 7-5). The player from Basel, also reached the final round in 2007 – when he lost to David Nalbandian- and in 2010, when Nadal was crowned champion.

Manolo Santana, director of the Mutua Madrid Open, was excited about the Swiss player’s announcement: “Federer is one of the best players in history and Madrid is a special place for him. We are delighted to have him back in the Caja Mágica. In addition, he is one of the fans’ favourites because of everything he has achieved in his career. We will be welcoming him with open arms”.

Fans who make the trip to the Caja Mágica next week will have something extra to celebrate. Federer is coming back to Madrid!
