Casper Ruud arrived in Madrid at number 22 in the world, his highest ATP ranking, and today he provided an example of his scintillating form.
The Norwegian won his clash with Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 6-4 in the match that opened play in the Arantxa Sánchez Stadium after one hour and 31 minutes of play against the 15th seed, who was on the receiving end of a barrage of venomous first serves from Ruud. The 22-year-old player did not face a single break point in the entire match.
It is the first win in the main draw at the #MMOPEN for Ruud, who failed to make it through qualifying in 2017 and 2019. The Norwegian is enjoying a run of good results in 2021, reaching the quarter-finals or better in his last four tournaments, his best result being the semi-final at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 (lost to Rublev).
