Mutua Madrid Open
Record Book 2013
A year after Federer set the record for titles in Madrid (with three), Rafael Nadal drew level with the Swiss as he was crowned champion in the Caja Mágica. The Mallorcan had to come through an intense quarter-final battle against David Ferrer and beat surprise package Stan Wawrinka, who was starting to show signs of what his future would hold, in the final. In the WTA tournament, Serena Williams lifted the trophy again, this time beating Maria Sharapova to pick up her second Mutua Madrid Open crown.
