TVE, coverage fitting for a monumental tournament

Antonio Arenas Mutua News

With the active participation of three ex-players, Televisión Española is expanding its technical and human infrastructure in order to take the biggest “Tennis Monuments” at this year’s Mutua Madrid Open to Spanish homes.

It will do so through the informed words of Àlex Corretja, Pato Clavet and Virginia Ruano, who will be working as pundits on six of the full matches we will be broadcasting from Teledeporte up until the quarter finals; the seventh match of the day will be covered by José Luis Villuendas. All of these figures will be back on the set to commentate on and later discuss the semi-finals and finals in both competitions.

With the slogan “Tennis is Madrid”, we are approaching the sixteenth year of this great tournament with the intention of making TVE the magic box where you can all witness the world’s best, from both the ATP and WTA tours.

With a team comprising of Nacho Calvo, Amat Carceller, Xavi Díaz, Virtudes Fernández, Lourdes García Campos, Graciela Álvarez and María Rodríguez, and the respective production team, Teledeporte will show a programme on Saturday the 6th looking back at the best moments from last year’s tournament -when Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep were crowned champions-, and explaining everything we will have to offer up until the afternoon-evening of Sunday 14.

For nine days, we will get a closer look at the stars on the Madrid clay, serving up comments on their social networks -Facebook, Twitter and Instagram-; a relaxed knock up as we hear from them off court; we will be behind the scenes to bring you experiences with coaches, physios, ballboys, drivers and even those responsible for providing the food at the tournament; our ex-players will take their mini-cameras into the changing rooms; we will be showing post-match press conferences live after the biggest ties of the day; we will regularly touch base with the other courts that have television coverage so that our viewers can get instant results; Àlex Corretja will be sharing some screen time with the biggest celebrities who have taken their seats in the boxes to watch some top-notch tennis; and Pato Clavet will be showing us the fun side of the people he got on best with when he was immersed in the world of game, set and match.

At this special event, you can play with us too because you will have WhatsApp to send us tennis-themed messages and images of your loved ones; and you will also have the #Madrid17 hashtag if you want to ask Álex, Pato or Vivi any questions.

Teledeporte will open its doors on the first weekend at 12 midday, and from Monday, at 11 in the morning… and we will be live from a set installed at the top of the Manolo Santana stadium until approximately 23.30.

Also, every day on TVE’s La1, and at 01.30, we will broadcast a 30-minute review show covering the most interesting, intriguing, fun and surprising moments of the day.

On the second weekend, from 16.00, Teledeporte will show the two ATP semi-finals and the WTA final… And the next day, from 18.30, and simultaneously on La1, the men’s final live.

At TVE we have nearly finished stringing our racquets and we will not miss a single serve.
